Best Welding Table for a Home Shop: 5 Picks, Rolling and Folding
Five steel welding tables for a home shop, compared on top size and thickness, fixture holes, load rating, mobility or folding, and the warranty each listing states.
A steel welding table gives you a flat, non flammable surface to fit up, clamp and ground your work, which a wooden bench cannot do safely. This guide is for home and hobby shops choosing a compact table, rolling or folding, and compares five on what each listing states: top size and thickness, fixture holes, load rating, mobility and warranty.

How we scored them
Each table is scored out of 100 on performance, build, value, safety listing and warranty, with the weights published on our How We Pick page. Welding tables have no electrical safety listing to state, so every table here scores zero on that criterion; the ranking comes from the other four.
| Product | Gear Score | Perf. /35 | Build /25 | Value /25 | Safety /10 | Warranty /5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CAMMOO W1200 | 8.7 | 29 | 22 | 24 | n/a | 3 |
| VEVOR 36 x 18 | 8.0 | 27 | 22 | 22 | n/a | 0 |
| WORKESS WK-WB065 | 8.0 | 29 | 21 | 21 | n/a | 0 |
| OLBRUS Folding | 7.7 | 27 | 20 | 22 | n/a | 0 |
| IDEALHOUSE 36 x 18 | 7.6 | 26 | 20 | 22 | n/a | 0 |
Scores run from 0 to 10. Safety counts only for powered gear or where the listing states safety features; where it does not apply, the score is taken over the remaining 90 points.
Buying guide: what matters in a home shop welding table
Top thickness
Thickness decides how flat a top stays under heat and clamping. Only two listings here state it: CAMMOO at 2.8 mm, about 0.11 inch, and WORKESS at 14 gauge, about 1.9 mm. Professional fixture tables use much thicker plate. These compact tables suit fit up and light fabrication; for heavy hammering, add a thick steel plate on top.
Fixture holes and slots
Holes let you bolt down clamps, stops and jigs. Three tables here use 5/8 inch holes, a common size for welding clamps, with 78 to 94 holes. OLBRUS states 0.63 inch holes on a 2.6 inch grid, the only listing to give spacing. Check that your clamps fit the hole size before you buy.
Load rating
Ratings here run from 1000 to 1200 lb, but no listing says how they were measured, static or spread across the top. Treat them as a rough guide and keep heavy parts centered.
Rolling or folding
Rolling tables move around the shop and usually add a tool tray. Folding tables store flat against a wall. The WORKESS also adjusts in height, from 27.7 to 36.6 inches, which helps when you switch between sitting and standing work.
Grounding to the table
Many welders clamp the ground to the table and lay the work on it. That needs bare metal contact. Painted and powder coated tops may not conduct well, so grind a small ground spot or clamp the ground directly to the workpiece.
Use as directed. Keep the area under and around the table clear of anything that can burn, since spatter and slag fall through fixture holes. Lock casters before you weld, keep cords and gas hoses off the floor where hot slag lands, and never exceed the stated load rating. See the OSHA welding overview and our Safety Disclaimer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a welding table?
You need a steel, non flammable surface to weld on safely. A dedicated table adds a flat reference surface, fixture holes for clamping and a convenient ground. Never weld on a wooden bench.
How thick should a welding table top be?
Thicker tops stay flatter. The compact tables here state 1.9 mm to 2.8 mm where they state it at all, which suits light work. For heavy fabrication, welders often use plate of 3/8 inch or more.
Can I ground my welder to the table?
Yes, if the clamp touches bare metal and the work sits flat on the table. On painted or powder coated tops, grind a ground spot or clamp the ground to the workpiece.
What size fixture holes are standard?
Home tables commonly use 5/8 inch holes. Three tables here do, and the OLBRUS uses 0.63 inch holes, essentially the same size.
Is a folding welding table strong enough?
The two folding tables here are rated at 1000 lb, with locking hooks on the WORKESS. They suit fit up and light fabrication; for heavy parts, a rolling table with a thicker top is steadier.
