Best Multi-Process Welder: 6 Picks From Plasma Combos to Pro Grade
Six machines that MIG, TIG and stick weld from one box, five of them with a plasma cutter built in, compared on output by input voltage, cut ratings and what ships in the box.
This guide is for home shop and farm welders who want MIG, TIG and stick from one machine, and often a plasma cutter too, instead of buying three or four boxes. A multi-process machine saves bench space and money, but it also packs more claims into one listing, so we compared these on what each states for output by input voltage, cut ratings, what ships in the box and the warranty in writing.

How we scored them
Each machine is scored out of 100 on performance, build, value, safety listing and warranty, with the weights published on our How We Pick page. A spec the listing does not publish scores nothing.

Buying guide: what matters in a multi-process welder
Which processes you will actually use
Mode counts are not a useful comparison. Spot and clean modes are variations, and spool gun MIG needs a gun most listings sell separately. Decide which of MIG, flux core, TIG, stick and plasma you need, then check that each comes with the torch it needs. Of the six picks, only the ANDELI and FEMEROL list MIG, TIG and plasma torches all in the box, and only the Miller lists a gas regulator.
Output on 110V and 220V
All six advertise two input voltages, but only PUWU states the MIG output on each, 200A on 220V and 146A on 110V, and only Miller states MIG thickness on each, 3/8 inch on 240V and 3/16 inch on 120V. Assume the headline amperage needs 220V or 240V unless the listing says otherwise, and have a licensed electrician install the circuit.
Plasma: clean cut versus sever
A clean or quality cut is the thickness the torch cuts with a usable edge. A maximum or sever cut only separates the metal, leaving dross to grind. In this guide clean cut ratings run from 6 mm to 15 mm, and only ANDELI and PUWU give them for both inputs. For regular cutting of 1/2 inch plate, a dedicated plasma cutter is the better tool: see our best plasma cutter under $1000. Plasma also needs clean, dry compressed air, so budget for a compressor if you do not have one.
Duty cycle and warranty
Of the 14 multi-process listings we looked at, only 1 stated a duty cycle with an amperage, and two of the picks here give 60% with no amperage, which cannot be compared. Four of the six picks state a term: three say 2 years and ARCCAPTAIN says 3 years of quality service. None of the 14 listings stated a CSA, UL or ETL listing, and ANDELI mentions only CE, which is not a North American safety listing.
Before you strike an arc or start a cut. Use the shade the manual specifies for each process: TIG, MIG and plasma need different shades. Wear flame resistant clothing and leather gloves, ventilate well, and clear anything flammable, since plasma throws sparks farther than welding. Disconnect power before changing plasma consumables. See the OSHA welding and cutting overview and our Safety Disclaimer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a multi-process welder worth it for a home shop?
Yes, if you will use at least two of the processes. One machine with MIG, TIG and stick costs less and takes less space than separate machines. If you only weld steel with wire, a dedicated MIG welder is simpler; see our best MIG welder under $1000.
Can a multi-process welder TIG weld aluminum?
Not on the evidence of these listings. None of the six states AC TIG output, and ARCCAPTAIN says DC TIG outright. DC TIG welds steel and stainless; TIG welding aluminum needs AC output, see our best TIG welder for aluminum. Several picks can MIG weld aluminum with a spool gun or liner.
Do I need an air compressor for the plasma cutter?
Yes. The plasma cutters in these combos use compressed air. The ANDELI and FEMEROL include an air filter regulator, but not a compressor.
What is the difference between HF TIG and Lift TIG?
HF TIG starts the arc with a high frequency spark, without touching the tungsten to the work. Lift TIG starts by touching and lifting. HF starts are cleaner and easier on the tungsten, but HF can interfere with nearby electronics.
Why does the Miller score below cheaper combos?
Our score counts only what the listing states. The Miller listing publishes no amperage, duty cycle or warranty term, which costs it points, and its price weighs on value. It still has the most specific thickness ratings and the most complete gas MIG kit here.
