Best MIG Welder Under $500: 6 Picks for Home and Farm Use
Six dual voltage MIG welders under $500, scored on rated output, duty cycle, warranty and what each listing leaves out.
This guide is for home, farm and hobby welders who want a MIG machine under $500 that can also run flux core, and who care more about duty cycle, input voltage and what is in the box than about the biggest number on the front. Each listing advertises 110V and 220V input, and we compared them on what each listing actually states.

How we scored them
Each machine is scored out of 100 on performance, build, value, safety listing and warranty, with the weights published on our How We Pick page. A spec the listing does not publish scores nothing.

What matters in a MIG welder under $500
Input voltage and your outlet
All six listings advertise 110V and 220V input, though the ARCCAPTAIN MIG200P shows only 220 volts in its specification table. None of the six states its maximum output on 110V, so do not assume the headline amperage applies on a household outlet. If you plan to weld thicker steel, budget for a 240V circuit installed by a licensed electrician.
Duty cycle, and why most listings skip it
Duty cycle tells you how long a machine can weld before it needs to cool, as a share of a 10 minute period at a stated amperage. Of the 13 welder listings we looked at in this price range, only one gave a duty cycle with an amperage: the TOOLIOM MIG-180 PRO at 60% at 180A, or about 6 minutes in every 10. Another gave 60% with no amperage, which cannot be compared. If you weld long seams, ask the seller for the figure before you buy.
Flux core or gas
Every machine here runs gasless flux core wire, which works outdoors in a breeze and needs no cylinder. Solid wire with shielding gas gives cleaner welds on thin sheet but needs a cylinder and a regulator. The listings that mention a gas hose do not list a regulator, so plan to buy one.
What is in the box
Lift TIG and spool gun modes usually need a torch or gun sold separately. Only the TOOLIOM ships with a Lift TIG torch. If you want aluminum, the ARCCAPTAIN MIG200P, FEMEROL MIG 250PRO and YESWELDER MIG-205DS PRO list spool gun support.
Warranty and safety listings
Across the 13 listings, 6 stated a warranty term and none stated a CSA, UL or ETL listing. That is why no machine here scores above zero for safety, and why the three with a stated 2 year term pull ahead on warranty.
Before you strike an arc. Wear a helmet with the right shade for the process and amperage, flame resistant clothing and leather gloves, weld with good ventilation, and clear anything flammable from the area. See the OSHA welding overview and our Safety Disclaimer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a MIG welder under $500 run on a household outlet?
All six listings advertise 110V input, though one, the ARCCAPTAIN MIG200P, shows only 220 volts in its specification table. None of the listings states the maximum output on 110V, so check the manual for the circuit and breaker it needs before you plug in.
Do I need shielding gas?
No. Every machine here runs gasless flux core wire. For solid wire MIG you need a gas cylinder and a regulator, which these listings do not include.
What does a 60% duty cycle at 180A mean?
It means the machine can weld for about 6 minutes in every 10 at 180A before it needs to cool. At lower amperage the usable time is longer. A duty cycle without an amperage cannot be compared between machines.
Can these machines weld aluminum?
Three of them list aluminum support through a spool gun sold separately: the ARCCAPTAIN MIG200P, FEMEROL MIG 250PRO and YESWELDER MIG-205DS PRO. The FEMEROL listing also describes running aluminum wire with a Teflon liner.
How thick a plate can a MIG welder under $500 handle?
Few of these listings say. The FEMEROL claims mild steel plate up to 14.0 mm without stating the number of passes, and the ARCCAPTAIN MIG200P gives only its thinnest weldable thickness, 0.039 inch. Treat thickness claims without a pass count as manufacturer rated.
